2025 marked maturation across engineering and industrial software. Adoption of AI gave way to execution at scale as organisations pushed beyond experimentation into integrated, outcomes-focused digital workflows, facilitated by Agentic AI. Recent software pricing has been influenced by wider inflationary pressures and the inclusion of ‘AI’ capabilities or assistants.  As more vendors adopt AI and SaaS offerings, expect to see repackaged license models, resulting in upward pressure on end-user costs.

Building and Infrastructure Design, Construction and Operations Software Market

The BIM software market has seen significant M&A activity over the years, with total transactions over the last 10 years proving substantial in both number and value. Completed in 2025, notable deals included Procore’s acquisitions of Novorender and FlyPaper Technologies to deepen BIM and visualization capabilities, Nemetschek Group’s acquisition of Firmus AI to advance AI-driven design review, its subsidiary ALLPLAN’s acquisition of Manufacton to enhance offsite construction capabilities, and Bentley Systems’ acquisitions of Talon Aerolytics and Pointivo Technology to strengthen its leadership in infrastructure asset analytics. The BIM Software market has shown consistent growth, with the market size increasing from around $23 billion in 2024 to an estimated almost $25.6 billion in 2025. Looking ahead, the market is forecasted to reach $37 billion by 2029, indicating a strong upward trend in the adoption and utilization of BIM technologies.
In the latest release, the constant currency growth estimate for the BIM Software market in 2025 is projected at +10.3% (Constant USD). The constant currency CAGR for 2025-2029 is estimated at +9.5%, compared to +9.6% in the previous release.

Manufacturing Design, Engineering, and Production Software Market

The Manufacturing Software (MCAD, CAM, MCAE, PLM, MOM, DM, PCB) sector continues to demonstrate resilience in the context of wider economic disruptions, and 2025 is projected to build on 2024, which exceeded expectations.
Vendor acquisitions, developments, and target market focus reflect vendors’ individual positioning for growth in adjacencies to core saturated markets and moves into AI , either organic or by partnering and acquisition.  Notable additional 2025 deals included Dassault Systèmes’ subsidiary, Centric Software, acquired Contentserv, Hexagon has completed the acquisition of Geomagic software business from 3D Systems Corporation, gaining market-leading technology that improves productivity,  PTC acquired IncQuery Group to strengthen ALM and systems engineering capabilities, and has moved away from acquisitions ThingWorx and Kepware, and is now focusing on its core CAD, PLM, ALM, and SLM to leverage strategic deals. Will this renewed focus set the tone for 2026 and beyond?
The Manufacturing Software market experienced growth from an actual market size of $32.4 billion in 2024 to an estimated $35 billion in 2025. Looking ahead, the market is forecasted to reach $47.7 billion by 2029, indicating a significant upward trend over the forecast period.
In the latest release, the constant currency growth estimate for the Manufacturing Software market in 2025 is projected at around +9% and the +10% from a year ago in 2024. The constant currency CAGR for 2025-2029 is estimated at +8%.

CAE / Simulation Software Market

Although CAE and simulation have existed for many years, the technology is advancing rapidly as manufacturers increasingly recognize the value of having multiple CAE capabilities, such as electromagnetics, CFD, and multi-physics, to better understand building behaviour, airflow, and responses to external stresses like earthquakes.  We also expect to see further consolidation in CAE to continue as synergies are seen between ‘EDA’ and MCAE in the silicon chip and electronic design space. You can find more information on our blog post about Turbulence in the CAE/EDA/Simulation Software Market.
In 2025, major M&A and partnerships included Siemens Digital Industries Software’s acquisition of Altair Engineering, Synopsys acquisition of ANSYS, and NVIDIA’s strategic investment in Synopsys to accelerate GPU-enabled simulation and verification workflows—supporting faster compute, more simulations, and increased software usage. Additionally, a definitive agreement was signed for Cadence’s proposed €2.7 billion acquisition of Hexagon’s Design & Engineering division, with an expected close in Q1 2026.
The overall market size for CAE software in 2025 is estimated at $11.6 billion. Of which $10.1 billion is software and $1.6 billion is provider services. In the latest release, the constant currency growth estimate for the CAE Software market in 2025 is projected around 9% and +13% (Constant USD) a year ago in 2024.
From 2021 to 2025, the fastest-growing Capability was Plastics, while from 2025 to 2029 the fastest growth is forecast to shift to DSE/SA. Over the same periods, the leading Application changes from Biomedical (2021–2025) to Materials (2025–2029). In contrast, Aerospace remains the fastest-growing Industry across both timeframes, with continued strong growth forecast through 2029.

Employment/
Occupations view – Engineering and industrial software users’ growth

Engineering and industrial software segments collectively serve a broad and expanding professional base, for example:
– Architects & civil engineers

– Mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing engineers

– Designers, architects, and programmers

– Simulation and analysis specialists

– Supervisors and managers

– Construction & production planning professionals

Collectively, BIM, CAD/CAM, CAE/Simulation, PLM, and other engineering software support tens of millions of professionals globally. While adoption is expanding rapidly among non-specialist users as tools become more accessible, collaborative, and embedded in mainstream workflows, specialist users remain the core of software usage and spending. Infrastructure engineers and technicians represent a large and well-defined specialist user segment:
– Current estimate is 28.7 million infrastructure engineers & technicians vs. 27.6 million in 2019.

– Spending per engineer rising at 9%.

– Overall infrastructure engineering software spend growing at 10%

Country View & 2026 Opportunity —  India: A Market of Massive Potential Manufacturing plays a significant role in India’s economy, accounting for about 17% of the nation’s GDP in 2023-24, and manufacturing software revenues are growing faster than in the US and EMEA.
