This week’s chart, which takes data from the Cambashi Industry Observatory, shows the size and growth of expenditure on technical applications (AEC, BIM, CAD, CAM, CAE, GIS, PLM, and Visualization tools) in Slovenia by industry sector.

Where are the biggest spenders?
The 3 industries that spent the most on technical applications – mainly software for BIM Design, PLM and GIS – in 2015 in Slovenia were Machinery, AEC and Automotive. These were closely followed by High Tech and Telecoms / Utilities.
Slovenia is a relatively new member of the EU and has borders with both Austria and Italy. It’s a little behind Czechia and Poland in terms of taking on some of the EU’s manufacturing. But that also means that Slovenia is well-set for plenty of growth.
That growth is not evenly distributed between industries. High Tech, Machinery and AEC are all expected to grow at a CAGR of 8% or more from 2015 to 2020. But expenditure in the Automotive industry is only expected to grow at a CAGR of 3%.
The new industry order for Slovenia in 2020
The upshot is that, although machinery and AEC remain the biggest spenders, High Tech goes well past Automotive into 3rdplace. By 2020, we expect High tech companies in Slovenia to spend over 50% more than Automotive companies.
Why is this important?
For anyone wanting to plan their marketing activities in Slovenia, knowing which industries to target is crucial. In fact, the next step would be to drill-down into the 16 machinery sub-sectors, 18 High Tech sub-sectors and 13 AEC sub-sectors that Cambashi’s Industry Observatory tracks to identify the detailed growth opportunities.

The Observatories
The Cambashi Market Observatories are a set of consistent and multi-perspective datasets for the technical software market. They provide detailed information on software spend by country, industry and product and the size of user communities, for a range of technical software application types, including:
- CAD, CAM, CAE
- PLM
- BIM
- AEC
- GIS
- IoT (software development tools)
Each data set provides a different way of measuring the use of software in industry, and can be used in combination to support business planning at global, regional and local levels. The methodology combines public and 3rd party data sources with Cambashi’s quantitative and qualitative research in each of these market views. Developed over 25 years, the combination of top down macroeconomic, industry detail and bottom up supply side (software provider) views leads to a highly consistent, multi-granular view of the market.
The Cambashi Industry Observatory breaks down global technical applications spend into over 100 industry classifications in over 50 countries.
