Automotive Industry Additional Information
CAE in the automotive industry has been impacted on multiple fronts during the COVID-19 pandemic, with a sharp reduction in consumer demand as well as manufacturing impacts due to ‘lockdown’ and social distancing measures. As a result, many of the key simulation software vendors reported falls in revenue in the early quarters of 2020.
CAE software vendors who are more reliant on automotive revenue have been hit harder. But vendors also report having seen some degree of improvement in the second half of the year. There is still a current expectation that the automotive market will recover well in the upcoming years. This is in part is being driven by increase in electric and green vehicle design and simulation, with many countries introducing (or moving forward) climate control targets, like banning the sale of new diesel & Petrol cars (e.g. in the UK by 2030).
The development of autonomous vehicle sensors and battery simulation for Electric vehicles will be another key driver for growth in the future.
